Most people I know had that one movie as a kid; that one movie that they would watch it over and over and over to the resigned acceptance of their parents. I’ve always thought that movie says something about a person. What was your movie?

Parents that say shit like “After everything that I’ve done for you, this is how you repay me?” are so fucked up. Kids do not “owe” their parents anything. Kids do not have a running tab of expenses to pay back that starts from the minute they’re born. Kids do not get to choose their parents or their needs and implying that they are the one forcing their parents to do something and that they deserve to be punished for it is straight up child abuse.

Never saw anybody talk about this but an intersex girl is in the Olympics !!
Her name is Caster Semenya and she has a higher level of testosterone in her body. She’s running for South Africa August 17th in the Women’s 800m.
Root for her !
You guys don’t understand how happy this makes me, you hear nothing about intersex people or anything we do or even our deaths at the hands of the medical field.
Nobody ever talks about us and now in the 2016 Olympics stands an intersex person ready to win gold and I couldn’t be happier to see it. People are going to talk about us soon and I hope it’s in good spirits. I hope Caster takes gold for South Africa.

I saw a mom at the store today. She had a little baby in a carseat, a two-ish year old and a three-ish year old. She was beautiful in her black pants and colorful tank, her hair in a ponytail. And she had a look on her face that said, “I am this close to killing someone.”
I looked at her strained face, and then at the well behaved and quiet (mainly because of seasonal allergies) five-and-a-half-year-old, watching Netflix and sitting in my cart. And I thought of all the times I’ve been that mom, two seconds from coming unglued from the stress.
I went up to her when our paths in the grocery store crossed again.
“Excuse me…?” I said.
“…Yes..?” She replied, guarded.
“Your boys are beautiful and look healthy. You look like you’re having a hard day, and I wanted to tell you that you’re doing a great job.” I said, without any fuss. Matter of fact.
“I…THANK You…” she stammered.
I nodded to my kid and said, “Been there. You’re doing a great job.” And I left.
I didn’t see her again, and I don’t care if I do. Moms need all the non-judgemental support we can get.
You’re doing great.
Happy Mother’s Day.

I just want to surround myself with beautiful things. Colorful rugs and pretty teacups and soft places to sleep. A shelf full of books and a desk with candles. Flowers on my table, dresses in my wardrobe.

Writing job!

A note to any followers looking for a job:
I’ve been applying to jobs and I came across this one that looks really interesting. I don’t have any article writing experience at this time, so I don’t qualify. BUT I thought some of you might like to take a look because it looks like a really cool job!
http://ift.tt/29C4Gv2
Here’s the job info:
Daily Progressive is currently hiring 20 part-time Contributing Writer positions.
We’re looking for progressive writers with strong anti-oppression analysis, experience with online writing, a well-developed writing voice, and good content expertise in one or more of our focus areas. Ideally, applicants should be able to write from the perspective of the communities or identities being affected by the issue area being addressed.
For more information on our Focus Areas and the kinds of pieces we’re looking for, click here.
Each Contributing Writer is expected to complete at least 2 articles each month, but with approval can submit up to 12 articles a month. Articles should generally be between 1,200-2,500 words in length.
Contributing Writers will be paid $60 per article published. Some articles are eligible for bonuses or a higher rate. (As a side note, we’re operating on a shoe-string start-up budget right now and are committed to raising the rate we pay for articles as soon as it becomes financially feasible.)
If you aren’t able to commit to completing 2 articles per month for publication, you can still submit articles for consideration as a Guest Writer.
The full site is launching in Fall 2016. We’ll have an audience of around a million readers within the first few months, so your articles will get excellent exposure even early on.
All positions work remotely so applicants can be located anywhere.
Daily Progressive is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. People with multiple marginalized identities - such as queer, trans, and/or disabled people of color and/or size - are strongly encouraged to apply.

If you’re going to claim that citizens have the right to weapons so they can throw of the yoke of oppressive government, maybe you should think twice about setting up a government that oppresses certain classes of people.
