one of my favourite linguistic phenomena/in-jokes is spanish potato chips being “ham-flavored, probably”

y’see because spain and portugal are so close, labels in stuff like food, shampoo, etc often come in portuguese as well as spanish

this brand of chips, Lay’s, displays the flavor in spanish and portuguese, resulting in ham-flavored chips looking like this:

with “jamón” being spanish and “presunto” being portuguese

however, “presunto” is also a spanish adjective, meaning “presumed” (or suspected)

so you have this in-joke going where spanish chips taste like ham, presumably

Shakira Law

Do we start with:

1. The fact that this is clearly supposed to be the One Ring from Lord of the Rings

2. “Shakira Law”

3. The implication that children either know arabic or will become muslims by eating a donut.

4. “Free Islamic Donut”

5. or that starbucks is giving kids weird donuts for free and expects there to be no questions about the intricate writing.

One donut to fool them all

6. Starbucks doesn’t sell donuts

I can’t stop laughing at this

7. something free from Starbucks??

The caffeine in coffee “beans” is a natural plant defense against herbivory, i.e., a toxic substance that protects the seeds of the plant. Fruits and leaves are both sources of caffeine as well and a tea can be made of the leaves, but neither are used commercially.

Me, eating the beans straight;
Deter??

The joys of being descended from generalist omnivores–our liver and kidneys are the envy of the animal kingdom. Poisons become flavors and drugs.

Yeah, various plants are spicy or sour in order to deter animals from eating them.

We come across that shit and are like “Hey! This stuff burns the shit out of my mouth! THAT’S AWESOME, MORE PLEASE.”

Beginning last summer Twitter user @fuguhitman began illustrating his personal backlog of bird-bread puns. His first starchy birb was the Sparroll and he claims to have at least 20 to work through. With 9 completed thus far, we have one question for him: why did you wait so long to share these works of punny goodness with the world?

Follow @fuguhitman on Twitter to make sure you don’t miss out on the rest of the breadbird flock and little bonus birbs such as this chocolate chick cookie:

petition for DC and marvel to come together and make the Thor and Wonder Woman culinary-discovery buddy film we all need

Oh no. This can’t be a film. IT NEEDS TO BE A SERIES.

Think Food Network country-tour style TV show, except they just love everything they come into contact with, all the time. And specific regional foods make them think of home – probably Greek foods for Wonder Woman and traditional Scandinavian foods for Thor. And at the end of every episode, they learn to make one or two key traditional regional foods from the place they visited.

…and then those foods just… sorta make their way into the films as passing references… “Hulk! I have learned how to roast an entire pig in the way of the Texans! You must help me eat it!” “…hey, Flash, can you go to the Asian market and get me Chinese vinegar, I’m elbow-deep in dumpling dough right now…”

Food and Superheroes.
Yes, please and thank you.

I did not know I needed this in my life but I do now.

A NYC grad student working on food stamps for her thesis has released a free cookbook for those living on $4/day.

SIG NAL BOO OO OO OOOST

hello

oooooh this is so nice!

I believe it’s important to eat well, even when you’re strapped for cash. It’s good for your health and energy! This cookbook is full of delicious and healthy recipes, the ingredients of which are fairly inexpensive.

I ACKNOWLEDGE THIS WOMAN AS A FELLOW WARRIOR AND A FANTASTIC HUMAN BEING.

Boost so hard. Feeding yourself well is a challenge when you”ve got little income

I HAVE BEEN USING THIS COOKBOOK FOR MONTHS AND IT’S AMAZING 100/10 RECOMMENDING EVERYWHERE

(just to give you an idea, my food budget is 30 euro/week at most [about $38] and I have to maintain a healthy diet due to weird medication side-effects and yeah, basically this book is a lifesaver if you’re broke but need to watch what you’re eating)

Reblog to save a life. Because it’s easy to find food for $4/day, but most of it tends to be garden variety junkfood
