Murder on the Rockport Limited exists in this weird liminal space because it’s better constructed than Gerblins but they still haven’t QUITE figured out how seriously they want to take this whole podcast. So on the one hand you have this cool murder mystery and the introduction of a major NPC and Tres Horny Boys are marginally more coordinated than they have been thus far, even if the overarching plot doesn’t advance very far, but like on the other hand it also includes

—An entire town of Tom Bodetts

—Hand stank

—Everything about Jenkins’ introduction

—The Brief but Horrible Scottish Accent of Merle Highchurch

—“Sorry guys I had a really bad initiative roll”

—Graham the Juicy Wizard

—That moment where Magnus actually very nearly died because no one cared yet if one of them had to roll a new character so he just threw himself off a train

—Jenkins fucked up his roll to attack THB so badly and Griffin didn’t have a backup plan so instead of a boss fight Jenkins just got punched off the train and died

tips for writing a news post

bc I’m tired of poorly shared information

a screenshot of ur twitter friend’s clapback at some random headline w/o sources isn’t news. source Everything. headlines can be super misleading and if you’re trying to spread info you’d better give people a way to access it

always a good idea to include multiple sources, esp if you’re giving in depth info on an issue instead of telling one news event. if you’re doing that also give a brief description of what each article is about and note the source instead of just a few unorganized hyperlinks

also a good idea to include some sources w/o paywalls for people who don’t subscribe to papers, the guardian and the atlantic are a few reliable &free ones off the top of my head

TIMESTAMPS. tumblr is a miserable hellsite so you’ve gotta do the work yourself and note the date in your post. can’t tell you how many net neutrality articles from 2013 I’ve seen floating around five years later

providing article excerpts with important sections bolded is GREAT to give people quick and reliable info, but please please please still include the link to the original article (and if you’re a reader click the link). it’s important that people can see the source for themselves, plus journalists need $$$

“why is nobody talking about this?!?!?!!1!” congratulations! nobody wants to reblog your post now.

also if you’re trying to share news about some little known herbalist doctor who has Literally Cured AIDS and can only find one equally little known source maybe… maybe put some more research into that.

Now that’s how you ally. That’s putting it on the line and showing solidarity. That’s how you use your white privilege for good.

”It’s nice to go out and march, we can do that. It’s nice to wear black at the Golden Globes, but what are you doing behind closed doors?” - Jada Pinkett Smith

It’s easily one of the cleanest examples of intersectional feminism I’ve seen in a minute. It’s the polar opposite of white feminism, where white women are concerned primarily with the wellbeing and advancement of other white women. If more white men and women stood up and demanded basic fairness instead of just talking about it—and not just in Hollywood—we might really begin to impact racism and close the pay gap that always gets inflicted upon black people in most careers.

Mid-nineteenth-century French necklace and earrings in the form of vines. Enamelled gold mounted with amethysts, circa 1840-1851.

“Naturalistic jewellery, decorated with clearly recognisable flowers or fruit, emerged with the Romantic movement in the early 19th century. It remained popular for many decades. This piece is notable for its particularly vivid combination of colours. With its matching pair of long earrings, its impact would have been considerable.” V&A

Did you know that after they switched to blind auditions, major symphony orchestras hired women between 30% to 55% more? Before bringing in “blind auditions” with a screen to conceal the the candidate, women in the top 5 major orchestras made up less than 5% of the musicians performing.

so I believe it was actually more complicated than that, in interesting ways. Because at first, when they did blind auditions, they were STILL hiring more men.

…Then they put down a carpet, so that high heels didn’t clack on the floor,  and BOOM women were suddenly getting hired.

The testers didn’t even know that’s what they were picking up on, which just goes to show how tiny of a cue it takes for misogyny to kick in.

The case of blind auditions for orchestras and how it dramatically changed the gender makeup of orchestras is a very illuminating example of gender bias, and an interesting possible way of countering it.

You can be sexist without knowing it. You can be racist without knowing it. This is not a moral failing; it is a moral imperative to remember that you are fallible, and take steps to limit the damage your squishy ape brain’s foibles can cause.

caitylotz: Some people think my body is too muscular, too skinny, too boyish. Some people will think it’s beautiful, powerful, sexy. Do I struggle with accepting my body type? Umm yes. Would I like having curves like @sofiavergara? Umm yes, but if we all looked the same that would be boring. Like painting the sunset all in one color. All the “right” curves in all the “right” places? There is no right and wrong when it comes to the body God has given you. I see a lot of online body shaming, if someone’s body is not to your liking…keep it to yourself. It’s not your body and making people feel insecure won’t help them and it definitely won’t help you. #bodypositive
