tips for writing a news post
bc I’m tired of poorly shared information
a screenshot of ur twitter friend’s clapback at some random headline w/o sources isn’t news. source Everything. headlines can be super misleading and if you’re trying to spread info you’d better give people a way to access it
always a good idea to include multiple sources, esp if you’re giving in depth info on an issue instead of telling one news event. if you’re doing that also give a brief description of what each article is about and note the source instead of just a few unorganized hyperlinks
also a good idea to include some sources w/o paywalls for people who don’t subscribe to papers, the guardian and the atlantic are a few reliable &free ones off the top of my head
TIMESTAMPS. tumblr is a miserable hellsite so you’ve gotta do the work yourself and note the date in your post. can’t tell you how many net neutrality articles from 2013 I’ve seen floating around five years later
providing article excerpts with important sections bolded is GREAT to give people quick and reliable info, but please please please still include the link to the original article (and if you’re a reader click the link). it’s important that people can see the source for themselves, plus journalists need $$$
“why is nobody talking about this?!?!?!!1!” congratulations! nobody wants to reblog your post now.
also if you’re trying to share news about some little known herbalist doctor who has Literally Cured AIDS and can only find one equally little known source maybe… maybe put some more research into that.
