The way people casually front about violence on here is annoying and honestly kind of upsetting. “UwU I’m gonna stab a transphobe!” … like… are you? Do you understand the psychological repercussions of engaging with intimate acts of personal violence EVEN when they are good, justified, and the right thing to do? Do you know how UGLY and FAST knife fights are?
We’re so fucking alienated from ourselves and each other.
Like, sometimes violence IS the answer, don’t get me wrong. But like…. it shouldnt be a meme.
I got into a fight with my roommate a couple of months ago because he going on and on about who was going to be first up against the wall when the revolution comes, and how I was supposedly more centrist because I wasn’t performatively prattling on in the same way… and I finally snapped and told him I just plain didn’t think he actually had it in him to murder someone. And you know what? I’m pretty sure I’m right.
And to be clear, I don’t know if I could, either. Under circumstances where it was morally necessary, I hope that I would have the strength to kill another human being. If I needed to shoot a Nazi, or a Klansman, or a rapist I really hope that I could do it. But I don’t pretend to know, and I’m sick of people virtue-signaling by casually throwing around violent ideals with no real acknowledgement or understanding of reality.
You want to guillotine the rich? Fine – It’s messy. The head lives for 3-6 minutes after the knife comes down. The blood runs everywhere, and the bodies shit themselves, and nothing fades to black or pans away. There are no gore-discretion shots. There is no off-screen cleanup, or clean heads neatly falling into a basket. The stench is inescapable; the screams haunt nightmares. Could you do it? Could you really, even for the revolution – even for the good of the world – even if it saved the world? I doubt most of the people ranting online could do it even for that – Not unless it was the fantasy, sanitized version they’ve seen on television.
Don’t make promises you can’t keep. One of the few things worse than being a coward is being a coward who’s also a blowhard.
