👊🏼progress doesn’t happen overnight, and you guys showed up massively, even if not everything went ideally! besides electing a whole crop of diverse candidates, there were many, many important gains in criminal justice reform and other ballot measures. many high-profile candidates may not have won, but it’s very clear they got several down-ballot candidates elected through their coattails.

over the past two years, i have admittedly also become tired of the endless negativity by some folks whom i may share similar political views with, but whom do nothing except criticise, demand ideological purity and sometimes even completely refuse to vote on that basis (despite not themselves facing any problems with voter suppression). progress is very often frustratingly incremental but starting one step at a time no matter how hard it looks is exactly how it’s done. having been in the trenches myself, it is essential to face these issues with a realistic assessment of the difficulties—but balanced with cautious optimism that what you do can make a difference. apathy and disengagement only protects the status quo. voting matters, you did your part and even if not everything is fixed overnight, you guys have taken that important step forward. fight on!
