A reporter from KX News asked me why I was at the camp today, while I walked around with my camera at the ready.
He said he was there to report our side of the story today after reporting DAPL’s side.
I told him that it was a little late to be doing that, when so much has been turned against us.
I told him, I don’t get the luxury of walking away from this fight.
This fight is personal to me, and I don’t get to say that it isn’t.
When I’m out at school, I think about what is happening here.
Whatever happens on Standing Rock, I have to live with that.
I don’t get to retreat to Bismarck, Mandan, Minot, or Texas like DAPL can.
Standing Rock always has been and always will be home for me.
When that pipe breaks, it breaks and destroys my home.
Promises that it won’t break or that they can fix it will do nothing for me when my home is destroyed.
When people say “well take a step back and look at it from their side,” I tried to, in the beginning.
Now?
I can’t.
I am unable to remove myself that far away from this, because if I do than I have lost the fire and the personal connection to what is going on here, I will have lost the very things that make me a protector.
This fight is as personal to me as if someone attacked my house.
Wherever I go, it’s coming with me.
DAPL, the news, and law enforcement quite honestly scare me right now with the lengths to which they will go and the lies they are spreading.
I won’t say I’m not scared, because I am.
But I need to fight.
I’m not going to stop until this ends.
