Ari being at Manchester pride makes me seethe with rage. It was her fans who made that “Millie Bobby Brown runs Faggots Over” meme (‘when I see a fag I floor it’ etc).
Because she’s there, entry fee for pride is £75! For fucks sake! if pride really is “for everyone uwu” like y'all screech on about, what about people who can’t afford 75 quid to get in to their own parade?
Need I remind you all that london pride allowed violent transphobes to the front last year? we are STILL fighting for our fucking rights to live our lives and this cishet singer who made a biphobic song THIS YEAR is headlining, profiting, and forcing actual gays out of their own celebration. Fuck Ari.
GET CORPORATIONS OUT OF PRIDE!
for any Americans out there, £75 is $99. it’s one hundred bucks to get in to your own fucking pride parade. not to mention transport, food, drinks, and merch which will all be inflated on the day too.
Fuck Ariana Grande, and Fuck Manchester Pride.
You may be relieved to learn you can stop seething in rage because
MANCHESTER PRIDE IS FREE
This includes the Pride Parade. Also the Candlelight Vigil, and a lot of other stuff you might expect from Pride: cabaret performances, film screenings, art shows, community workshops, youth resources, etc.
Now, there are also two paid events this year that you can buy tickets to as an optional part of Manchester Pride, and those are:
The Gay Village Party, £11/day or £16.50 for a weekend pass. It’s basically just a pride block party. It’s the same thing as last year, just moved to The Village and now it’s way cheaper (it was £20/day or £28.50 for a weekend pass) because of the new addition that Ari is headlining:
Manchester Pride Live, £38/day or £75 for a weekend pass. It’s sort of a music festival, in addition to all the artists already playing at the block party. This is what Ariana Grande is headlining Tickets include admission to both Manchester Pride Live and the Gay Village Party. Ariana Grande is not profiting from this; it is a fundraiser for LGBTQ+ charities.
So, yeah. Nobody is being “forced out” by this. Tickets to the block party are cheaper now, and thus more accessible to more of the LGBTQ+ community. The parade itself is free, like pride parades usually are. There are more LGBTQ+ artists performing at Manchester Pride than before, requiring more stages and more space, which has been possible to fund because of the draw of a globally recognized name like Ariana Grande, who was chosen as a tribute to Martyn Hett, a gay teen and activist who died in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing.
And no, Ariana Grande is not profiting. The idea that Ariana Grande, who can sell out giant arenas with tickets ranging from $150-$400 (not including packages or VIP passes), is somehow playing on a significantly smaller stage and headlining a four-day festival that people can get into for £38 as a big ‘ol cynical cashgrab at gay wallets is …
Laughable?
Like, you can dislike Ariana Grande. Go ahead. It’s okay. But let’s stop acting like it’s some great, principled pro-LGBTQ+ move to attack an LGBTQ+ charity when they choose a recognizable popstar to help fundraise for LGBTQ+ causes and pay tribute to a murdered gay activist who died in an attack on her concert. Or, for that matter, that this is about getting corporations out of pride. Because if it were, we’d be talking about corporations, not artists and charities.
Reblogging for this addition cos I keep seeing so much misinformation.
The parade is free and it always has been
The village party is affordable
The night events have always been at a much higher cost but it’s for LGBT+ charities (and always has been)
Ariana has done a lot for Manchester since the bombing and she will always be special to Manchester people.
People run at anything they can be possibly angry with
Yeah! Like 2 minutes of “research” (by which I mean a single google search and a few short clicks on the Manchester Pride website) is enough to show it’s all BS. It’s like some people just want to be mad at someone, and they’ll jump at any chance they get.
Wow…well thank y’all for shedding further light on this
Another reblog of this additional info bc bored of seeing people bash this event with so much information basically making people who would have previously attended without any other thought feel somewhat uncomfortable when they believe they’re having to pay for pride when that is literally not true
Finally, a version of this I can reblog.I figured there was some misinformation in there somewhere.
