Crown Princess Euimin of Korea, born Princess Masako Nashimoto of Japan, was a candidate to wed Crown Prince Hirohito (before he became Emperor) until she was suspected to be infertile. That’s when the Japanese wed her to Crown Prince Euimin of Korea, who was being held in Japan.
Despite the nature of the marriage and the drama of being unwanted by occupied Korea and then imperial Japan, she and the Crown Prince were eventually was allowed to live in Korea where she founded charities to educate the physically and mentally disabled.
