Children’s art in media: fully-colored, stylized but recognizabke figures with backgrounds and aesthetically textured and messy crayon coloring that

Children’s art in real life: an anguished disembodied head floating on one side, a massive sea of amorphous red scribbles taking up half the paper, ‘SAM’ written in enormous shaky letters overlapping everything, partial figure of a dinosaur abandoned before drawing the legs

in a movie this would be a fully-colored crayon drawing of a ranger standing in front of an arch that said “Jurassic Park” but instead it is two dinosaur skulls floating in the abyss while a ranger’s head is swallowed by his own enormous speech bubble and I adore it

Part of my job is literally making those dumb kids drawings in film/tv AND LET ME TELL YOU, the reason why they’re never like actual kid art is because 1. None of us art goblins remember what weird shit kids think of when they draw so we rely on bad reference images and the random stuff we remember drawing 2. We have so much muscle memory that it’s legit difficult to make ‘bad’ art 3. It’s a legal nightmare to use actual kid art most of the time so one of the dept art goblins makes it 4. The colour is because it adds contrast and draws the eye; usually we’re working with nice art supplies with a full spectrum of colours and trying to tone it down to look as bad as possible but failing miserably because it’s just not in us to do it.

This is the funniest fucking professional problem I can imagine.

I’d love to see the results of like… trying to commission children to make art for film and TV. “Draw a happy family!” “Okay!”[chird turns out three humans and a yellow amorphous blob with a speech bubble shouting something unintelligible]“Oh uh… it’s very. Nice. Can you tell me who the yellow person is?”“That’s Spongebob. The family is happy because he came to their party.”

I haven’t seen this on tumblr, and I feel like it needs to be said.

We already ask too much of our teachers. Why are we expecting them to give their lives now?

As someone who works in the schools, I want to stress how important this is. I work with 11-14 year olds, and after Parkland a girl asked me what I would do. And I looked at their faces. I adore my kids, even the ones who make me want to pull the hair out of my head. And I was hit with this wave of love. Your kids come to school and you trust me with them, and in return I give them all of my love and respect and I care about every kid that walks through my door. And that’s when I knew I would die for them. Because if it saves even one of those precious kids it will have been worth it.

People that are so pro-gun give me chills because I have nightmares about a shooting happening at my school. I cant imagine my kids walking into class and seeing an empty desk and knowing that they won’t be back. I’m crying right now thinking about that. I dont particularly care what people do in their free time but are guns worth the lives of kids? Because that’s the question our nation is trying to answer. Personally, I think the answer should be obvious. Why isnt the answer obvious?

Tldr: I would quite literally die to protect my students. This is a political topic that gets me so emotional I nearly cry every time its discussed. The lives of children will always be more important than guns.

You know what I hate? When people who are pro-guns bring up the rise in stabbings in countries that have banned guns. Do you know how many people a lunatic with a gun can take down before the police arrive? A hell of a lot, especially since american police aren’t exactly the fastest people to take action in an emergency. A lunatic with a knife can take down a lot less people, and its a lot easier to stop them since knives are close range weapons. Its not exactly hard to come to this conclusion, they’re just trying to come up with halfassed excuses so they can keep their toys

What I mean when I say I like a villain:

I like their story

I like their motivations

I like their skills/powers

I like their intelligence

I like their quotes

I find them interesting

I like their relationship with other character(s)

What I definitely don’t mean when I say I like a villain:

“They’re just misunderstood”

I’m defending every single one of their actions and I think they’re 100% innocent

I’m a dumbass who doesn’t know that they’re a villain

lucreziaborgia:

“Diana’s lack of cultural and accumulated background trauma is perhaps what makes this version of her so iconic compared to other superheroes, across both Marvel and DC. While all superheroes personify various fantasies of power, in this iteration Diana represents the fantasy of freedom from structural violence and harassment. It’s not just that she can fight her way out of danger—it’s that she’s a vision of what could be possible if women weren’t in danger as often as they are. Over the course of Wonder Woman, Diana is also continually shown listening to and respecting other women, when the men around her are eager to underestimate or dismiss them. This is particularly noteworthy, since Diana is a warrior and a princess and the women she meets are not only ordinary 20th-century residents, but lack institutional power. It would be easy to portray Diana as valuing strength or courage, finding the women who grew up under patriarchy confusing. Instead, there’s Trevor’s secretary, who Diana treats with kindness and respect from the moment they meet. There’s a woman from a destroyed village, ignored by the soldiers in the trenches and seen as another acceptable victim of the war, whose plight Diana takes seriously. Even the female villain of the piece, Doctor Maru, is spared by Wonder Woman in the hopes that she could be reformed. Diana will argue with other women and fight against them, but she’ll never be their rival or feel threatened by them, and refuses to condescend to them as well. In a genre of film that glorifies strength and fighting skills—particularly in the rare instances that women are allowed to be action stars—Diana’s kindness and respect is a deliberate subversion.”

Do you ever start bullshitting a paper, and then look over it halfway through and think, ’…Wait a minute, I could be onto something here.’

this is the definition of college.

Literally I was writing a paper on Asian salt water crocodiles, like a simple about them paper for a college class, and I started noticing some inconsistencies in the scientific papers I was sourcing and I accidentally discovered that the crocodile has been misdiagnosed as least concerned on the endangered species list when they should be classified as endangered and now my professor is having me write a formal report to the international Red List to have them reclassified and all I wanted to do was write this paper on an animal I thought was cool and now I’m considered an expert on this species…

this is how it works half of esteemed biologists trip and fall into their specialty while pursuing something else. one lecturer i just went to started as a biochemist researching antibiotics and discovered that crocodiles change colors based on environment and now he has 30+ crocs in his yard for research purposes and he’s just like… “wait… i’m a chemist…”

How did so many people end up with crocodiles on accident?????

Accidental crocodiles lol

Amazon drivers forced to deliver 200 parcels a day on less than minimum wage:

Jeff Bezos is sitting on $97 billion because of stuff like this

Amazon made $47B in gross profits in 2016. They have 540,000 employees.

If they gave every employee a $5/hr wage increase and increased their workforce by 10% to reduce time pressures on individual workers, it would cost them between $6B and $9B per year (assuming 40 to 60 hr average work week), still leaving about $40B in gross profits. That’s still a ridiculously huge amount of money being made.

But capitalists always want to squeeze out ever more profits and this is always done by exploiting workers.

THIS is why they strike, and THIS is why we support them. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM AMAZON FOR THE DURATION OF THE STRIKE. BUY ELSEWHERE, and MAKE IT CLEAR that you’re supporting the striking workers.

I threw a dog on the ground today 😭😭😭

I am embarrassed by how hard this made me laugh.

…..does this mean cat people hurl cats at the ground?

you just kind of… open ur arms and they sort themselves out. if you try and place them down they get mad and wiggle and make everything worse

some friends of mine have the most un-cat-ish cat i have ever met

my quintessential example of this:

i was holding him in my arms petting him while we were picking out what games to play that night. when we’d decided on a few, i needed to put the cat down in order to, you know, carry boxes. so i started letting him down, expecting that he’d eventually do the cat hop thing… but he never did.

i ended up lowering him all the way to the floor. and even then he never got his feet under him. i just sort of… plopped him down on his side as he stared up at me like a betrayed sack of flour.

I saw this so clearly in my mind and I’m never going to stop laughing at betrayed sack of flour.

He wasn’t done being held!!!

i can’t believe all the people losing their shit over this post are the same people who make ‘triggered’ jokes.

Here’s the thing.

If you at all monitor your language based on your audience—avoiding curse words in front of kids, using bigger words in front of your boss—you obviously care about the impression your words give people.

Do you avoid talking about the attractive sex after your bestie’s breakup? Congratulations, friend, you’re being a decent human being.

Your friend wishes you call them Charlie instead of Charlotte. It’s just a nickname. Would you say “No, your birth certificate says Charlotte so I’m calling you Charlotte?”

Your co-worker tells you that he gets extremely uncomfortable when you clap him on the shoulder, due to a creepy uncle who did the same thing. Do you make a point to clap him on the shoulder every time you see him?

It is really not that difficult to be “politically correct.” It does not mean that you must eliminate all opinions completely, it merely means—at a basic level—that you should attempt to be aware of your audience and how your words and actions affect them.

Don’t call it being “PC,” if you must. Call it being “aware and empathetic.” Being a human with decency and respect for other people, cultures, and experiences.

^boom. couldn’t have said it better myself.

Tldr: You’re not being “word policed” when people expect you to have manners.
