Mandy Patinkin on The Late Show, December 18, 2015
My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare for…the compassion and empathy that was never shown to you, but might one day save humanity as we know it.
Mandy not taking anymore of anyone’s shit again, ever.
I don’t know who Mandy is but I already respect him so much
This is Mandy, my friend:
Patinkin on quitting Criminal Minds: [Explaining why he abruptly quit the series before its third season began, blindsiding its creator Jeff Davis, Patinkin says,] “I thought it was something very different. I never thought they were going to kill and rape all these women every night, every day, week after week, year after year. It was very destructive to my soul and my personality…After that, I didn’t think I would get to work in television again.“”
One day Mandy Patinkin decided to stand up and be my hero, and he hasn’t stopped since.

I want this in every library, everywhere. After all, some kids won’t even google this stuff because they don’t want parents/siblings checking their browser history.
This is really awesome. And if you’re not familiar with how the Dewey Decimal system works - the numbers subject-based, which means these numbers are applicable in EVERY library. So if you see something you want to research on this list - look for those same numbers in any of your local libraries.
yooooo the dewey decimal therapy is a godsend if you can’t get to a brain mechanic!

I think my favorite panic-fueled response to a petitioner was when someone came up to me in Union Square and said “Hi, would you care to sign our petition for LGBT rights?” and I just blurted out “I’m already gay” and the person, taken aback, said “Well, that’s… nice.” and I said “It really is. Goodbye.” and just walked into the closest store to escape.
one time I was on my way to a final and this clipboard person was aggressively trying to stand in my way and saying “excuse me sir, can you take just one minute?” and I was like “I’m sorry I’m on my way to a final” and they said “just takes a minute to save a mountain” and I panicked because clearly the truth of why I had to go wasn’t working so I just said the first thing that came to mind which was “Sorry I hate mountains”

A man is driving down the road and breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, “My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?”
The monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, even fix his car. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound.
The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but they say, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.”
The man is disappointed but thanks them anyway and goes about his merry way.
Some years later, the same man breaks down in front of the same monastery.
The monks accept him, feed him, even fix his car. That night, he hears the same strange noise that he had heard years earlier.
The next morning, he asks what it is, but the monks reply, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.”
The man says, “All right, all right. I’m *dying* to know. If the only way I can find out what that sound was is to become a monk, how do I become a monk?”
The monks reply, “You must travel the earth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and the exact number of sand pebbles. When you find these numbers, you will become a monk.”
The man sets about his task. Forty-five years later, he returns and knocks on the door of the monastery. He says, “I have traveled the earth and have found what you have asked for. There are 145,236,284,232 blades of grass and 231,281,219,999,129,382 sand pebbles on the earth.”
The monks reply, “Congratulations. You are now a monk. We shall now show you the way to the sound.”
The monks lead the man to a wooden door, where the head monk says, “The sound is right behind that door.”
The man reaches for the knob, but the door is locked. He says, “Real funny. May I have the key?”
The monks give him the key, and he opens the door.
Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone.
The man demands the key to the stone door.
The monks give him the key, and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby.
He demands another key from the monks, who provide it.
Behind that door is another door, this one made of sapphire.
So it went until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz, and amethyst.
Finally, the monks say, “This is the last key to the last door.”
The man is relieved to no end.
He unlocks the door, turns the knob, and behind that door he is amazed to find the source of that strange sound.
But I can’t tell you what it is because you’re not a monk

which is good news! i dont need hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get on life saving medication!
but! that also means that altho i will likely have costs associated with getting on hrt (travelling to vancouver because the island i live on only had this piece of shit for trans women hrt, bloodwork, the meds themselves)
its a lot less than anticipated
in fact, i may already have enough! people were super super generous, and overnight i recieved 150 dollars.. which by the way, thank you so so much. that means so much to me
but i still have the original post going around from when i was ill informed, and im worried im going to get more donations from people that dont know the situations changed!
so.. well, please reblog this to get the word out! if you see someone reblog my donation post, link them this post so they know!
and if youve donated me money, and would like a refund because i dont even know if i need as much as i have, contact me!! well work things out once i know what im expecting as far as costs
for any money i have that im not contacted about, and doesnt go directly to getting on hrt, ill be using simply to feed myself or for stuff like household items. shampoo, soap, that sort of stuff, the Things U Need that you dont eat
but. yea! please reblog this! im the op and dont want to take money from people for a reason that turned out to be a lie

Who wants to hear about the time my dad turned down a loan offer for Donald Trump, and Trump threw a total shit fest in the media?
Am really curious now.
Ok so when I lived in Texas my dad worked for this big finance company.
One day Donald Trump/his people came to the building and were like “Hey! We want a loan! Sign this thing!” (For whatever reason they were building a casino, I think? I don’t know where or how it was legal but yeah) And everyone at my dad’s business was like ey it’s Donald Trump, why not.
Except my dad.
He looked over the loan’s terms and was like “Guys no this is not a good idea” so he went to his boss, who looked at it further and decided “Oh hey, you have a good point” so my dad’s team decided not to give Trump the loan.
When the group’s decision had been reached, they notified Trump, who proceeded to go fucking ballistic.
Trump called up the CEO of the company and was like “YOUR DUMB ASS EMPLOYEES WONT GIVE ME THIS LOAN” and at this point my dad and his boss were making crosses over their hearts because good lord were they gonna get fired.
But the CEO looked at the loan’s terms and said “hey dude, I totally agree with what my employees said, and I’m gonna stick with their decision”
And Trump threw this MAJOR SHIT STORM and got all over the media, calling out the company, telling them that he’s gonna get an even better deal at some other company. And my dad’s CEO was just like lol have fun.
Trump never got a better deal and then his casino went out of business and my dad and his boss didn’t get fired and have really good jobs now.
The End.
Moral of the story? Don’t give Donald Trump what he asks for and you’ll keep your job, your money and your integrity. In addition you get to watch a blowhard blow hard.
Remember this when it’s time to vote.

I think a lot of people forget that a library is a giant room filled with free awesome shit that you can take home and play with, no questions asked. just as long as you tell them you’re gonna, and remind them if you want to spend more time with the stuff.
I think the US library system should have a once a year advertising spree where they just have the phrase
“Libraries. Don’t forget: Things are free in here.”
Posted literally everywhere.
No. If ordinary people start going into libraries, libraries are going to get robbed. They’ll spend tons of money trying to replace missing books and they’ll be loud as hell. This is a terrible idea.
@nuriem2. are you for real?!
First: there’s no such thing as “ordinary”. People from all walks of life have always used libraries. The system I work for has ALWAYS had missing lists, and always will. It’s human nature: a certain percentage of items are always going to go missing. Most libraries take that into consideration when ordering materials.
We use strategies to curb things from walking off, of course: put video games and DVDs in locked cases, for example. But you’d be surprised how many people dont even know how that we have video games! Also, we have a SUPER EXTENSIVE digital collection, accessed for free with a library card. You dont even need the physical items! We also have a toy collection. That’s right, TOYS. For free with a library card. And they ALWAYS come back. We have access to makerspaces, audiovisual recording studios, and much more, all for free with a library card.
Still, we get patrons who walk off with things, improperly check things out (which adds to the missing list), and guess what we do? We constantly try to help patrons regain access to being able to check things out. We do a lot of fine forgiveness so that patrons can continue to take things home. We know a lot of people might not be able to pay their fines at the moment. So we try to work with them because life happens. We don’t judge or try to limit patrons. We try to help them to clear their cards.
Fuck outta here with that “going to get robbed” mindset. Libraries are free, and always will be. They stock way more things than youd ever imagine. Try walking in one some time. I bet it’s changed a lot since youve last been there.
^^^
Also, fuck the idea that libraries have to be quiet. In half an hour, I’ll be teaching kids how to make their own intruments from vardboard and a MakeyMakey set and they will play piano, bongos and a synthesizer that does fart sounds (they’re 8-10 years old…) and we’ll be doing it right in the library. The children’s library is never quiet.
There ARE quiet corner and there always will be, for people who want to work here. But on the whole, I prefer a library where people are not talking in hushed tones and walk around on tiptoes. I want them to feel at home and that bring a certain amount of noise with it.
Also, what is ordinary in your mind? What are these ordinary people you are talking about because I don’t think I have seen such a person in my life.
Seems to me that SOMEONE is well off enough to not need to use the services of a library, and not coincidentally, they believe poor people don’t deserve access to those same resources that, in owning them, SOMEONE feels superior.
I have an infinite love for libraries and it took some time to realize they offer so much more than “just” a huge treasure of books even though I visited libraries daily for years.
I didn’t expect them to offer other stuff like guided tours, public talks and discussions, workshops, help with research and computer software, etc, so I didn’t really see it at first. But libraries have a very important social role for people of ANY background! I can’t even be mad at library fees because I see them as a donation to a wonderful service that is otherwise free or almost completely free!
Libraries are for everyone
We also have AC in the summer and heat in the winter and comfortable places to sit. We have tables to work at and (sometimes) outlets to plug things into. We have a lawn and sometimes we put lawn games out on it. We have literacy services and free wifi and programs where you can play with LEGO or see a medieval weapons demonstration (we had a trebuchet on our lawn once - we launched water balloons with it) or learn about local history or geology or wine or dozens of other topics. We run video game nights and board game afternoons and computer classes and storytimes and we just started running trivia nights at a local pub. We have a display space local artists can apply to exhibit their work in and we host art shows from the local high schools once a year. And that’s just where I work. Some libraries can offer more, some can offer less, but we all do what we can.
Why do we do it all? Because EVERYONE DESERVES ACCESS. Every single ordinary person out there? They have the right to access information. Libraries aren’t for the elite. They’re for anyone who wants to use them. Hell, we have tons of material available online now. Stream it for free! Movies, shows, music, audio books, text, databases, newspapers. You don’t even have to physically come in the building again once you get a library card and you STILL get access to all of that. That’s why we fucking exist. For ordinary people and extraordinary people. For the people who can get it elsewhere and the people who can’t. We offer it free. Because you deserve it.
^ THIS
LIBRARIES ARE FOR ALL PEOPLE TO USE
this is why i love libraries and love working for one
and yes sometimes people steal things, but the vast majority of them do not
and even when people do steal things, we replace them and move on
because we are dedicated to providing access to all people
I would LOVE to work in a library…but I would probably get distracted by all the books! <3_<3
I do work in a library, and I do get distracted by all the books (and DVDs). My “to-read” lists are insane.
“If ordinary people start going into libraries…”
EXCUSE ME BUT WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK LIBRARIES ARE FOR????
Signed,
A Librarian

Signed,
A Librarian

No, but think about this.
The crows she feeds obviously have their own little lives. They go about their business, and they spot *pretty thing* or /unique thing/ in question. What gets me is that the *first* thing on their minds as recipient of this thing is the little girl that feeds them.
They spot a thing, and immediately must think, “that nice girl with delicious foodstuffs must have this to show my gratitude.”
It’s actually more than that, though, if you read the articles or watch the videos. This has taken place over YEARS- it started with these birds following this little girl around because she was a messy eater and it has turned into a ritual for the family. They have a water station and food stations where they daily set out things for these birds and sometimes (but not always), these birds leave ‘payment’ behind for the food.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
These birds are not just taking food and leaving shinies. These birds are watching over this family now. Their lives have become involved. These crows are keeping track of this girl and her mother even when they are out of the yard. How do we know?
One of them is a photographer, and one day while she was photographing some stuff on a bridge, she dropped her camera’s lenscap over the edge. There was no way she could get it back, so she left it. When she got home, the lenscap was sitting on the edge of one of the feeding stations, waiting for her.
Not only were the birds following and watching over her, they were smart enough to realize she dropped an Important Thing and cared enough to bring it back to her.
I could not have asked for more
New life goal: be friends with crows. Can you imagine? If I ever get married, I’m inviting my crow friends to the wedding.
This is in my goals I just wanna commune w the corvids

A reporter from KX News asked me why I was at the camp today, while I walked around with my camera at the ready.
He said he was there to report our side of the story today after reporting DAPL’s side.
I told him that it was a little late to be doing that, when so much has been turned against us.
I told him, I don’t get the luxury of walking away from this fight.
This fight is personal to me, and I don’t get to say that it isn’t.
When I’m out at school, I think about what is happening here.
Whatever happens on Standing Rock, I have to live with that.
I don’t get to retreat to Bismarck, Mandan, Minot, or Texas like DAPL can.
Standing Rock always has been and always will be home for me.
When that pipe breaks, it breaks and destroys my home.
Promises that it won’t break or that they can fix it will do nothing for me when my home is destroyed.
When people say “well take a step back and look at it from their side,” I tried to, in the beginning.
Now?
I can’t.
I am unable to remove myself that far away from this, because if I do than I have lost the fire and the personal connection to what is going on here, I will have lost the very things that make me a protector.
This fight is as personal to me as if someone attacked my house.
Wherever I go, it’s coming with me.
DAPL, the news, and law enforcement quite honestly scare me right now with the lengths to which they will go and the lies they are spreading.
I won’t say I’m not scared, because I am.
But I need to fight.
I’m not going to stop until this ends.
I do not have the luxury of walking away from this fight, and until I can walk away without fear, you will continue to hear about this from me.

On September 9th a national prison labor strike starts. I 100% support this action, and every demand that is being made- if this is the first you’re hearing of this or you’re uncertain of what exactly this entails, please take the time to read up before the 9th, so we’re all prepared to defend the strikers actions and demands when they get smeared in the media. Prisoners are human beings who should receive adequate food, living conditions, medical care, and mental health treatment without being subjected to coercive work requirements, nor should they be faced with extended sentences or violence for refusing to work.
this is tomorrow!! Be ready!!
My uncle is fifty-four. He’s spent more years in prison than out in his lifetime, starting way back when he was seventeen. My uncle is an addict. Now, he’s been out of prison and has steered clear of the addictions that led him to prison for six years, and my issue with his convictions is another story entirely.
But my uncle was already a master carpenter when he went into prison, and a talented artist. The prison system of the United States had my uncle working for contractors to design and work on buildings for something like a dollar and fifty cents an hour, while promising him that every two days he worked, he would get a day off his sentence. (Anyone want to take a wild guess just how true that was?) And all those years working and spent in a prison cell, my uncle actually got better at his art and his skill. I started sending him books based on my major, botany, and he actually started working on designs that incorporated plants and solar power, from what he understood of the subjects. True solarpunk.
At fifty, when my uncle was released, he was happy to be out. Only for the prison system to try and force him back in. A minor drug charge from thirty years back, after he’d already been in prison for twenty, and a judge wanted to send him back for another ten years.
Don’t think for a second it wasn’t because the privatized prison system was profiting off him, and don’t think for one moment that he is somehow special. The privatized prison system uses prisoners as firefighters, as clean-up crews, as “contractors” for private companies, doing everything from sewing your bedclothes to building the house you live in. And they make almost nothing, then get out of prison and find the skills they acquired in prison mean shit, because no one will hire them and they can’t vote to change that.
My uncle is fifty-four years old and he has spent most of his life in prison, not even for a violent crime, mind you. He and his friends got caught smoking weed in an apartment, some twenty years back, and one of the people there had some coke on them. The judge “made an example” of them all, and they all got ten-fifteen year sentences. They all spent a decade and longer having their skills exploited with promises that never came through.
Just like everyone else in the prison system today.
Support the strike.

im serious about that “stop saving things for special occasions” bit tho like. even if u aren’t in your 20s. thats for everyone. its one of the most useful things ive learned lately
stop! just stop. eat the special snack. drink the expensive hippie tea. use the incense or the bath bomb or whatever you paid way too much for because you were feeling really bad and retail therapy makes u feel alive
when we save things for special occasions/rainy days it contributes to us feeling like A.) our day to day existence is lackluster and B.) you have to be feeling a certain level of Bad, or have to reach a certain level of Socially Accepted Achievement, to enjoy things
just give yourself stuff. there are definitely sometimes reasons to withhold things from yourself - as motivation, if it’s something you consciously want to use sparingly, etc - but at least for me half the time it just turns into self-flagellation and also cool things and cool experiences and nice treats just collect dust while i wait for some fabled day when i convince myself i finally Deserve it
just fuckin give yourself stuff dude. life’s so mindblowingly short
my grandmother died having only used her china like twice in her life. during the year or so before her death, she was starting to package up and give things of hers to her kids, and gave mom the china while sighing “oh i wish i had used the china more!” and mom tried so hard to convince her to just keep it, then, and eat corny dogs off it if she wanted. she insisted she couldn’t possibly, you need a special reason to use the fine china.
when nana died, we used her fine china as our everyday dishes for years. i was 18 when she died, and never really stopped having that in the back of my head.
now, when i hear myself say “i wish i had a reason to wear/do/eat/use X!” i hear nana regretting never really using her china. and let me tell you a thing:
spaghettios taste great when eaten from fine china.
I’ve seen this post making the rounds. Just wanted to add something to it that my sister-in-law once told me:
“A ‘special thing’ can make any occasion special.”
She told me this when I objected to her opening a really expensive bottle of champagne just to watch a movie. And you know, she was right. The champagne was amazing and while we always sit around and watch movies, that bottle made that night a really special occasion that I will always remember.
So, cut yourself a little slack and remember that an ordinary day can become special.
My mother has always had a habit of buying what she calls “love gifts”. Essentially she would buy me my favorite snack or take me to get iced coffee or buy me fuzzy socks something like that
Her reason for that was simply because she thought of us at work and wanted to get something as a way of saying “I was thinking about you and I love you”
Now as a kid I just took the presents but when I got older I felt a little bad
She didn’t always buy something small, sometimes it was some new makeup or video games or something else that was more than just a few bucks
When I told her “hey mom it’s sweet that you do this, but you don’t have to go do this all the time. You can just wait until a special day or a special occasion”
She just looked at me and said “but Samantha, this is a love gift, and I love you every day not just the special ones”
And ever since she said that I haven’t objected again

ok who is Michelle Rodriguez though
she made a video explaining it because she felt like the words were twisted.
she meant that she wanted hollywood to stop being lazy and just develop mythology for superheroes of color where their cultures would be embedded into their story. like, rather than just take peter parkers story and put a poc in there, she just wants people to develop their own mythology where they put a cultural story behind that if their heritage isn’t rooted to america
it’s on her facebook. cant link it, my mouse is broken
video
This isn’t stupid at all. This is so important
We need more heroes like Static Shock, where their culture is a part of the suit.
The fact that they twisted her words so much like that holyshit–
And shockingly, people ran with it because they’re really just interested in dragging someone.
And what she’s saying makes sense. Hell they don’t even have to create new ones - there are dozens, if not hundreds, of non-white superheroes in DC and Marvel’s catalog from over the years that have been largely ignored or sidelined as minor characters along side larger AAA headliner characters. Why not dig up some of them and give them some more exposure instead of altering another character?
My best friend puts it like this, “Giving a person of color the mantle of established heroes shows that the only way to get noticed is by being a white super hero.”
