That drop took me out. She fuckin shit up. YAS.

THAT DROP. I FLUNG BACK ON MY CHAIR AND SHRIEKED

I am musically inept, like, woah

I hardly know what one instrument is from another and even that I get wrong sometimes!

Can someone please explain to me what, aside from being aesthetically pleasing, it is a conductor does, exactly? It always looks like the musicians aren’t even looking at them and they have the music in front of them to tell them what notes to play– I think. I honestly do not know but am quite interested in being educated o:

Me listening to music at work when I think noone is watching

@chimerafood the conductor is keeping the rhythm and speed of the orchestra in unison.

@chimerafood The conductor keeps time, counting the beat so that everyone plays the piece at the same speed.

@chimerafood the conductor does more than just keep time. The conductor is the one who makes decisions about the interpretation of the piece. Dymanics (loud/softness) are often written in the music, but how loud of soft is subjective and differs with each group that plays the piece. Each conductor has their own interpretation of a work. The orchestra defers to them on all questions to do with this. That is how there is consistency and cohesion in the group when they play.

are you ever just reading a book and you come across word that you don’t know how to pronounce so you just go afkjhjdsfsjkdhs in your head

when it’s someone’s name and you have to keep doing that for the rest of the book

And then if that book gets turned into a movie, they will pronounce the characters name and you just sit there in the cinemas like the fuck just happened to me

Or when you can’t for the life of you visualize what a character looks like. And they’re the main character. So you just go through the book having some vague image of the protagonist floating around the world.

On every wheelchair various notes were left like: “be right back”, “it only takes a moment”, “I’m get something here”, etc.

See, in many modern animes, you’d probably get the protagonist to say something like, “Wha-WHAAAT? Uh, b-but we’re both girls! Shouldn’t you be giving this to a boy or something?”

I really like how Usagi handles it. She’s not undermining the girl’s feelings and she’s taking her seriously. And while she doesn’t reciprocate, she offers her friendship instead of just brushing the girl off and going “ew, gay weirdo!” Sailor Moon really did empower women and sexuality, and this is one of the many scenes that showcases that.

Let’s be very clear about what Trump is doing here: as ABC wrote, he’s suggesting “Khan’s wife didn’t speak because she was forbidden to as a Muslim.” This is bullshit. It is flatly, verifiably, false. But that’s almost beside the point.

Trump listened to a speech by the bereaved father of a fallen Muslim soldier and used it to slander the fallen soldier’s family. That was his response. That is his character.

At this point, I honestly don’t know what to say. I don’t have new language for this, I haven’t found another way of saying this isn’t okay, this isn’t kind, this isn’t decent. Instead, I’ll note James Fallows’s response. He quotes Joseph Welch, speaking to Senator Joseph McCarthy in 1954.

“Until this moment,” he said, “I think I never really gauged your cruelty.”

-

Ezra Klein asks

just what kind of person Donald Trump is (and if you don’t know the answer by now, you never will)

i am so mad about this i could cry. the guy is actually a psychopath. will his supporters care? of course they won’t. he could shoot someone in the face and it would be the fault of liberals, muslims or crooked hillary. vile, disgusting man.

(via arthoebeyonce)

The whole article is well worth reading. Trump followed his ‘just wondering’ comments about Mrs. Khan with a defensive babble about how he has too sacrificed for his country by being super successful in business. The degree of tone-deafness, meanness and self-centeredness this man brings to the table is remarkable. As Klein points out, it’s unimaginable that any other politician would have responded like this, with no attempt to appear empathetic or respectful of this family’s loss.

(via westsemiteblues)

“This isn’t partisan. This isn’t left vs. right. Mitt Romney never would have said this. John McCain never would have said this. George W. Bush never would have said this. John Kerry never would have said this. This is what I mean when I write that the 2016 election isn’t simply Democrat vs. Republican, but normal vs. abnormal.“

In which we make informative posts about built-in software accessibility features that are commonly overlooked because nobody ever documents them:

In most Windows-based applications, double-clicking a piece of text will select the full word you’re pointing at, while triple-clicking will select the full paragraph.

If you’re bad at clicking and dragging, you can also select a range of text by single-clicking the starting point of your desired selection, pressing and holding the SHIFT key, and single-clicking the ending point.

For extra precision, you can also single-click the starting point, then hold down the SHIFT key and use the left and right arrow keys to adjust your selection range letter by letter. A lot of people know about this in text editors; the interesting (and less well-known) part is that it works even in applications with no visible cursor, like web browsers.

If you hold the CTRL key while clicking and dragging to select text, you can select multiple discontinuous ranges, then copy-and-paste them as a single operation.

Find right-clicking and using the context menu awkward? CTRL+C is copy and CTRL+V is paste. (This incidentally circumvents those asinine “right-clicking is disabled!” scripts.)

Go ahead and add your own!

Here’s one for digital artists: do you need to work really close in, but that makes you mess up because you can’t see what the piece looks like normally?

Most digital art programs will let you open multiple windows on the same piece simultaneously, each with its own independent zoom level and other settings.

Making changes in one window will update all of the others in real time, so you can work at 800% zoom and see the effects of what you’re doing at 100% zoom at the same time.

In Adobe Photoshop, it’s Window > Arrange > New Window For [name] in the top menu. It’s right at the bottom of the Arrange menu; if you have multiple files open, you’ll see multiple menu items.

In GIMP, it’s View > New View. You don’t need to select a file here - it’s automatically the one that was most recently active.

Your own art program probably has a similar option.

Why is it every time a white person get called out for saying racist things their apologies are always vague? I’d rather her just be honest and just admit that shd thought no one would see this and that’s why she was say it. Aesthetique ™ you’re not a true cool kid until you draw on graph paper or on overlapping sticky notes. You’ve taken pics of your sketchbook next to an aloe or cactus plant at some point.

The Fanartist That one artist pretty much everyone who evenly remotely likes the show/book/movie/whatever knows. You watched their empire rise and you might watch their empire fall. Is that guy who somehow makes a full on illustration 20 min after the episode airs.

The Portrait Artist The paintings are stylized just enough, everyone uses their photoshop brushes, and their art is so good you don’t realize all they do is draw the faces of hot people facing left.

The Professional Their stuff is so good. It is sO GOOD WHY ARE THEY SO GO– oh they’re an art director who has been in the industry for 25 years ok makes sense.

After 16 years of service, the 44-year-old journalist, Jonathan Clynch, asked that he now be referred to as Jonathan Rachel Clynch by RTÉ.

Not sure if anyone missed this but I’m so happy to see this!!! It’s wonderful to see the various gender identities appear in big names and not just seen as a “tumblr thing”

Spaghettieis is a German ice cream made to look like a plate of spaghetti. In the dish, vanilla ice cream is extruded through a modified Spätzle press or potato ricer, giving it the appearance of spaghetti. It is then placed over whipped cream and topped with strawberry sauce (to simulate tomato sauce) and either coconut flakes, grated nuts, or white chocolate shavings to represent the Parmesan cheese. Dario Fontanella first created it in the late 1960s in Mannheim. Although it’s not well known outside German-speaking areas, it can be found at some gelaterias and specialty ice cream parlors around the world. Try it at a German Eiscafe, it’s delicious. :)

not voting for hillary clinton is a vote for donald trump

But also THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO CHOICES IN THIS ELECTION pls people, I know it seems unlikely, but if everyone who didn’t want either candidate wrote in a name, someone else would stand a chance [and we could live with ourselves, not having voted for one or the other]

no they wouldn’t, literally do not do this

please educate yourself about nader and the 2000 presidential election before encouraging this literally terrible idea

People on both sides say “Not voting for my candidate is a vote for the other guy” No, it’s just not a vote for your fucking candidate. Vote for who you actually believe in, otherwise you might as well not vote.If Hillary actually gave a damn she would try harder than just say “Vote for me cause I’m not Trump” No bitch, how about you show me something I can believe in.God damn, no wonder so many people don’t fucking vote.

*sigh*

Let me explain why they say a vote for a 3rd candidate or not voting for Hillary is voting for Trump:

The United States does not have a direct democratic voting system. We have an indirect system called the electoral college. The electoral college is  a compromise between election of the President by a vote in Congress and election of the President by a popular vote of qualified citizens.

To win the Presidency you do not need a popular majority; you need the majority of votes of the electoral college.

The way the college works is that the two parties select the delegates that will serve as electors, and the electors pledge to vote for the candidates, depending on their party affiliation, of either the democratic or republican party. So, when people go vote, they are actually going to vote for electors that have pledged to vote for a specific party/candidate.

Each state is allocated a different number of electoral seats, and so not every state is truly worth the same given that every candidate is racing to secure 270 seats (minimum required to win the election).

What’s important to note is that the electoral college is a winner take all vote in 48 of the 50 states, meaning that the candidate with the higher number of votes in a given state will get ALL of the seats. This is one of the reasons why third party candidates are a wasted vote.

Based on our country’s history, most States around the country have already been defined as either red or blue, because the majority of the people that go and vote in said states tend to stick to either one or the other no matter who is on the ballot. It becomes a bit of loyalism to a party or, more accurately, just a strong distaste towards the ideals of the other party. However, there are a few swing states that really define the elections, for each election cycle they tend to change depending on who is on the ballot.

Now, third party candidates, which is often used as a protest vote, have never worked because a) they are not written into every state ballot, meaning that there are states that don’t offer these candidates given that they did not qualify b) have rarely gotten enough votes to even be up for electoral seats c) ALWAYS end up hurting one of the two candidates, for, in close runs, they can make one of the other two candidates lose a SWING STATE.

This is what happened with Ralph Nader in 2000. The votes that he received hurt Gore in certain states, particularly florida, which led to Bush winning as he had the majority of electoral seats even though he did not have the majority in popular vote.

Now, in the latest poll, it shows that the race between Hillary and trump is very close, and, when third party candidates are involved, it actually HURTS Hillary’s chances.

Now, if it hurts her enough, Trump can obtain the much needed swing states. If he gets over 270 seats (and thus more than hillary) he WILL win the goddamn election.

This is not a year to vote for a third party candidate. This is not a man you want in the oval office of the most powerful country in the world.

There is nothing NOTHING you can pull out that will make Trump the lesser of two evils.

We live in a country that has a two party system, so yes, a vote for a 3rd party candidate or a non-vote IS actually a vote for trump.
