Recently I purchased the book Meet Your Dog: the Game-changing Guide to Understand Your Dog’s Behaviour by Kim Brophey. You’ve probably seen me share a few quotes from it by now.
It’s an interesting dog book because it presents its ideas in a new (or, new-to-me) way that I’ve not seen in other books. Brophey has devised a trademarked “system” for explaining dogs to the layperson. She calls it Dog L.E.G.S. That is: learning, environment, genetics, self. The book is divided into these four sections.
The interesting part is that in the Genetics chapter, she categorises dogs based on ten types or breed groups and then describes them based on the L.E.G.S. system. The goal here is to help you either choose a dog that suits you, or understand your current dog better. It’s a unique approach and I think it breaks down what can be complex scientific ideas about dogs into easy-to-read chunks.
The ten groups are: Natural Dog, Sight Hound, Guardian, Toy Dog, Scent Hound, Gun Dog, Terrier, Bull Dog, Herding Dog and World Dog.
Definitely an interesting approach for a dog book.
“World Dog” I love it!
