this is about nothing in particular, but i just felt like typing it out: the best thing you can do for the people you love, whether you’re friends or not, is not put them on a pedestal. you can’t have a legitimate human connection with someone if you’re putting obsession in between their subjectivity and yours, and by that i mean that elevating someone to an impossible standard is also a form of dehumanization, and there’s no genuine mutual understanding to be gained in a relationship built upon that kind of inequality
