The charcoal in food trend is dangerous

I’ve been hoping I’d see someone talking about it at some point but I haven’t and even though I’m probably yelling into the void, I need people to grasp how dangerous this trend is. Fuck your charcoal ice cream or charcoal lemonade if it doesn’t come with a warning label. Activated charcoal is used in hospitals to neutralize certain “dangerous” chemicals (ex. If someone has alcohol poisoning, charcoal may be pumped into their stomach to neutralize that so that theres more time to flush the alcohol). These places selling this trendy edgy black food or drinks don’t tell you that it can actually fucking stop your prescription medication from working. I cant link a source because mobile is ass but if you ingest activated charcoal and you take prescribed antidepressants, however long the charcoal is in your system is how long your medicine isnt going to work. Im fucking appalled because i was offered “”“"charcoal lemonade”“”“ by a health juice place and they said “oh it’ll cleanse you” and I had a sample which wasnt bad. When I did research I discovered it could’ve stopped my medicine that keeps my suicidal thoughts and tendancies away. Thats not okay. Stop this dumb fucking activated charcoal trend before someone has some “”“"aesthetic”“”“ ice cream and their medicine suddenly stops working and they wind up dead. If you could please help spread this I’d love you forever. If I have any misinformation dont hesitate to correct me since I’m by no means an expert and dont claim to be.

“OCA (charcoal) greatly reduces gastrointestinal absorption of LTG and MHD. The use of OCA is hence strongly favored I’m the treatment of overdose with these drugs.”

LTG is Lamotrigine/Lamictal, which I take for a seizure disorder, I have one a good percentage of the time I miss a dose or especially two, idk how long this shit lasts (I take them every 12 hours). Thank you.

Anyways ^ that’s me if anyone doesn’t know and this is important

The reason they use activated charcoal for absorbing things from your GI tract is because of its extremely high surface area relative to its volume. Think of it like popcorn; when you pop a kernel of corn, its volume probably triples or quadruples, but its surface area increases by probably 10-fold or more.

All the little microscopic nooks and crannies in the charcoal particles are REALLY GOOD at picking up and holding onto various different molecules. This includes toxins and poisons, which is why it will “cleanse your system” or whatever. But it’s not specific; it’ll absorb everything, including your potentially-lifesaving medications.

Basically, if you take any kind of meds, don’t consume activated charcoal, because it might fuck you up royally.
