Growing up means going from “I love this book so much, I hope they make a movie from it because it would be awesome!” to “I love this book so much, but I hope they don’t make a movie because it wouldn’t be able to capture it.”

And have you SEEN what they can do with visual effects these days? There’s no reason for book adaptations to be lackluster anymore.

I don’t think visual effects are the issue here?

For me, growing up meant going from “I hope they don’t make a movie version of this book, movie versions always suck so they’re just going to ruin it, and people should just read if they want a good story.” to “I hope they make a movie version of this book because it’s so great that everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy/be moved by it, even if it’s not as good as the original.”

That is also a good/valid point!
