important example of how adultism hurts adults: we’re expected to distance ourselves so thoroughly from childhood and anything associated with it that we get to the point where we’re committing a social transgression by having fun in public. you know how older geeks are derided for putting their energy and talent into creative, imaginative, enjoyable pastimes like cosplay and fanfiction? how adult comic book readers and adult animation fans are constantly told to find something more serious and “age appropriate” to enjoy? that all traces back to the fact that adults are expected to be above the frivolous enthusiasm of youth. it’s the exact same phenomenon as men being attacked for enjoying stereotypically feminine hobbies, and it needs to stop for all the same reasons.

Amen.

There are WORDS to explain why people laugh at me for being “too happy” as if innocent joy is some kind of crime.

Like… fuck you. I am a depressed motherfucker so if I woke up happy today I deserve a goddamned MEDAL and if wearing these light up blue and green heelys motivates me to exercise, who are you to complain I am not looking sufficiently boring?

Fuck ageism and fuck everyone who attempts to enforce it.

If you don’t like that I post fandom-related content in my 30′s, get off my blog, and have fun shriveling up into your gray as hell version of life.

There was a point when I was maybe… 20? When I sadly thought to myself “I guess I shouldn’t keep my stuffed animals on my bed and stop doing cute childhood things like wishing on loose eyelashes” and I felt heartbroken. And then a few weeks later I went “you know what? I don’t want to not do those things. Who cares if it’s childish? It makes me happy.” So yeah, I’ve got several stuffed animals on my bed and I jump in puddles and wish on shooting stars and you can’t tell me to Act My Age, because that isn’t something that exists.
