What they don’t tell you:
Self care sometimes isn’t fun. It’s going to class even when you want to stay in bed and rest. It’s paying bills on time and running errands even when every strand of your being cant stand it. It’s going to therapy and taking your medicine even when you don’t want to. It’s using coping skills even when going back to self destructive ones seems more appealing.

Recovering sucks. It’s hard. But you have to believe in the light at the end of the tunnel. And even on those days you don’t, you fake it till you make it.

Recovery is still worth it.

Sometimes self-care is taking care of future-me. Because she deserves to have someone looking out for her.

A heartfelt shout out to all the insanely talented fan fiction writers out there doing their thing. Both the widely recognised individuals as well as the lesser known hidden gems for Fan Fiction Writers Appreciation Day.

I’ve always been a voracious reader and over time have come to learn two very important things:

I. If you tell me Fan fiction isn’t legit writing I will cut you. Some of the most haunting writing I’ve ever discovered was written by obscure fanfic writers in the murky depths of the internet

II. I read some really crazy sh*t at 3:30am tbh

The Poison Garden

Established in 2005 by the Duchess of Northumberland. The garden contains over 100 deadly and hallucinogenic plants.

’I wondered why so many gardens around the world focused on the healing power of plants rather than their ability to kill… I felt that most children I knew would be more interested in hearing how a plant killed, how long it would take you to die if you ate it and how gruesome and painful the death might be.’

@harnaamkaur and I are tired of your shitty gender roles. We shot this series for @theparallelmag to challenge what people are “allowed to do.” She has a beard due to a medical condition. She loves it and kills it! As for me, I just want to wear a skirt sometimes cuz I think it can look dope! The fact we socially relegate these fashion and styling attributes to certain genders just seems so frivolous and dangerous when you consider how aggressive people get when their confronted with these things that don’t fit into their understanding of how the world works. At the end of the day, just be yourself and love yourself and don’t judge others who are living that way. Think outside the parameters that we are lead to believe are absolute and see the world as it is! Much love to all of you!📷: @sophieephotos💄: @kateoffthewall👔: @roxannechanelmurray

a song called ‘disco inferno’ just came up on my dash and i automatically registered it as “i learn by means of hell” before i realised the title was actually english and not latin

“I learn by means of hell,” forthcoming rap album from Doctor Faustus

When we figured out that’s what Disco Inferno meant (we translated it as “I learn through suffering”), it became the motto of our Latin class at college, and the unofficial motto of my undergrad.

This is part 4 of 4 in our POC photoshoot in cooperation with @haenuli . In one day we shot 16 looks with 4 models. It was crazy!

More photos from part 1, and all 4 sets, can be found here: http://ift.tt/2c0darI
Why did we do it? This is what the models had to say:@loliville : I felt frustrated at the lack of representation, but also that someone was telling these girls and guys that they couldn’t wear lolita because of something as petty as melanin distribution. Who does that?@taratiki17 : I have been into lolita for a few years now and even though I really love it there was always that feeling that I could never really do it justice because of my skin tone or race. After a while, when I began to take more photos and share them with others, I started getting a lot of positive feedback from many people, but mainly African American women saying how inspired they were to see a representation of themselves in the lolita community. There’s something about seeing someone who has similar characteristics as yourself being featured in something you love that gives you a boost of confidence to say “I can do it too”! I’ve felt that feeling myself and will always try to give that same inspiration to others who really need it!

Britney: This shoot was done in response to the lack of representation of darker skinned people within the lolita community. We would like to challenge the perception that Lolitas all fit one “mold” and hope to open the door for others in the community to come out and show our diversity.@kawaiilifetv: All of these beautiful photos came as the result of hearing that women of color “can not wear lolita”. That women of color were too afraid to wear this obscure yet beautiful fashion because of the hate that they could possibly get from the color of their skin. Well here we are breaking the mold, and I hope we inspire everyone else who are second guessing themselves to break it too.

This was the crossword puzzle in the New York Times yesterday.

Tausig’s crossword is a so-called Schrödinger puzzle, named for the physicist’s hypothetical cat that is at once both alive and dead. In a Schrödinger puzzle, select squares have more than one correct letter answer: They exist in two states at once. “Black Halloween animal,” for example, could be both BAT or CAT, yielding two different but perfectly correct puzzles. Only 10 such puzzles have now been published in Times history.

It’s the theme of Tausig’s puzzle, though, that makes it special. Four entries in Thursday’s crossword can include either an “F” or an “M.” Both are correct; neither is wrong. For example, “Part of a house” can be either ROOF or ROOM. The long “revealer” answer, tying those select entries together and spanning 11 squares smack-dab in the middle of the puzzle, is GENDER FLUID.

This puzzle, with “M”s and “F”s that aren’t fixed, is a masterful blend of subject and structure. “It potentially really evokes what gender fluidity is, which is not moving back and forth between two poles, but actually not being committed to either pole, and potentially existing in many states at different times,” Tausig said.

As a female martial artist, when I see artists draw female characters preparing to do any sort of martial arts, and they’re wearing any bra other than a hardcore high-impact sports bra (especially if they’re decently endowed), I’m like…their titty gonna fall out. It straight gonna fall out. Seen it happen. It’s a real problem. Lots of movement and impact–you gotta make the proper adjustments. Some ladies even wear two sports bras, like the yoga kind and then the running kind. Definitely not anything low-cut cuz…that titty? Gonna fall out.

so how am i supposed to sit damnit!

The truth is that you’re most likely gonna die however you sit so just relax and enjoy the descent to your untimely demise.

This is BS: http://ift.tt/2bfk90a

The brace position actually does save lives and reduces injuries.

It saves lives by putting your head already against the thing it’s most likely to hit in an impact, namely the seat in front. This reduces your chance of a head injury. If you can’t get your head against the seat, or are in an exit row, then the modified brace position secures your head against your legs.

It reduces injuries by tucking your limbs in and holding them in place, meaning they don’t move during the impact, meaning they’re less likely to be broken.

And, ya know, if you are conscious and don’t have a broken leg, you have a much higher chance of evacuating safely from a plane that is, say, on fire, or sinking into a river…

Numerous reports indicate that bracing maximizes your chance of surviving uninjured in a survivable crash - and over 70% of crashes are survivable.

Mythbusters busted this by putting a dummy through a series of simulated plane crashes, and they discovered that the brace position absorbs more of the crash energy than sitting upright, and that the force was channeled into the chair.

So, why do flight attendants sit in a different position? Because jumpseats are not designed the same way as passenger seats.

First of all, some jumpseats are rear facing. On some planes, some passenger seats are rear facing. If you are in a rear facing seat, then you should not brace, you should sit upright and press yourself into the seat, legs together.

Second of all, flight attendants often wear shoulder harnesses, so their shoulders are secured to the seat. They do not, however, put their legs against anything, they tuck their legs under the seat. Sometimes they sit on their hands, sometimes they put their hands firmly on their thighs - this is, again, to minimize limb movement.

So, this is bullshit. If you are on a plane and the cabin crew yell Brace, BRACE. It might save your life.

When someone gives you safety instructions, FUCKING LISTEN.  Don’t try to think you’re smarter than them because you read a conspiracy theory on the internet.
