There are SO many articles that are says by that Moonlight won because it’s more political, and it’s infuriating because 1. White people literally CANNOT imagine that people of color are able to excel. They cant imagine me that maybe there are Black people in this world who are better actors and actresses than they are, who carry a film better than they do.
2. The movie is about boys/men who are Black and queer. That IS political. In an industry that is determined to typecast Black men as hardened violent criminals incapable of anything but hatred, it is a BIG fuckin deal to see them be soft and vulnerable. It’s a big deal to see them be allowed them find love. It’s a big deal to see them find love in each other. Finally, a movie that allows Black men to act outside of their usual roles, and puts a different side of Blackness on screen! It’s political, sure, because white people made it so. But then winning was because Moonlight was the better movie, plain and simple, so white people can stop being bitter and nasty and trying to blame it on politics because y'all can’t swallow the fact that there are Black people out there who are more talented than you. 🖕🏾
