The second girl at least read the book to confirm that it was shit, she even had Capote on deck as backup. Chick 1 is just lazy

Nope. Girl 2 saw that Girl 1′s absolutely accurate analysis was being shut down just because it wasn’t stated in an intellectual way (in spite of its validity). So Girl 2 reinforced Girl 1′s opinions in solidarity and made sure that it was absolutely clear that Girl 1 was factually correct. WITHOUT taking credit for her observations (”kim is right” instead of “Actually, kim”)

Girls supporting Girls.

Girls not letting other girls be treated poorly.

Girls not letting dudes who think that everything written by drug addled cishet white dudes is somehow Edgy and Important shit all over the opinions of girls who are like “No actually this is incoherent crap written by a manchild”

I’ve repeatedly stopped reading books because they were shit.

SAME

Hey by the way, 30 pages isn’t lazy.  That was a real effort.  But she couldn’t make it further because the whole story was crap.

2 pages might be lazy.  30 is an assessment of how well a writer is– or isn’t– able to achieve their goal.

You never think it happens to you until it does. You never think that you’d be the one that people reblog tips for.

I wash just closely followed and taped by a man at a convention today. The only reason I’m here to talk about it is because of said reblogged tips. They might have just saved me.

When I saw that man behind me, I did a run-through of everything I knew to keep me safe. Everything I saw on this website that would help me. First, I made sure I was being followed. I picked up my pace, went around tables sporadically, mixed up my directions. I never stopped moving. When I saw he was still the same distance behind me, I knew.

Second, I looked for my friends. I had come with three other people and had split up to look at merch. But when I couldn’t find them, I did what I never thought I’d have to do. I thank all of the people I followed for reblogging it so many times.

I picked a random cosplayer my age (a Midoriya cosplayer of 15-16 years) and pretended that I just met a long lost friend. I leaned in close to give them a hug and then whispered that I was being followed. They understood IMMEDIATELY and let me follow them to a different booth. It wasn’t until I grouped with them that the man stopped following me. I later went to security and the man was already someone who they were having trouble with earlier.

Moral of the story: Please reblog tips for safety on your dash. I don’t care if it doesn’t fit. If I didn’t think of pretending I knew someone, something worse could’ve happened to me. If you’re being followed, don’t be afraid to pretend you know someone. Be careful out there. You never think it’s going to be you until it happens.

We’re often viewed as second-class American citizens. This is nothing new, sadly. A while ago, we were called parasites for wanting statehood because it gives us equal rights as such citizens without the need to leave our home island.

But anyway, two lives have been lost today. And the hurricane hasn’t fully arrived yet. This monster is going to tear us apart. We are expecting to stay without electricity and water for months. The pessimists are claiming that it could actually be more than a year without fulfilling our basic needs in a safe environment. Our infrastructure is shit. Our government is beyond redemption. The current state of our economy may worsen by the aftermath of this hurricane.

This may become the most catastrophic storm to hit Puerto Rico in its history.

And some of my people are still unwilling to believe it’s coming.

This is going to be one hell of a ride.

It’s too bad trans girls are in so much danger from police and social violence because otherwise they’d be the perfect group to push the envelope on “Free the Nipple”.

Unless they get their gender markers changed they’re legally allowed to be topless in public.

Except we’re not even apparently legally allowed to do that:

http://ift.tt/2fSYpxN

“Andrea Jones was arrested for indecent exposure after taking her shirt off after the Morristown Driver’s License Office refused to change her sex from male to female on her driver’s license.”

Numerous trans women over the years, with or without their legal markers changed, have been arrested for public indency for toplessness, in states where men can be topless, before being charged and jailed with men.

The state has absolutely no problem using unfair double standards to punish trans women just for existing.

If you’ve ever wanted a perfect example of why the term “transmisogyny” exists, here you go. Trans women are only called male when people want to insult us or put up a convenient roadblock. All the other times we’re regarded as a lesser class of woman.

nonaligned-nblm:

It is not unreasonable to want a partner to respect your gender.

It is not unreasonable to want a partner to respect the fact that you are unaligned.

It is not unreasonable to have an in depth conversation with a partner regarding how their orientation relates to your gender.

It is not unreasonable to request a partner to ID as bi/pan/poly out of respect for your gender identity.

You are not unreasonable for wanting your gender respected in every way, especially from a partner.

You are not the bad guy for wanting respect and you are not the bad guy for ending any relationship where you are not respected.

You know I was right there with you right up until I got to “hey its totes cool to ask your partner to *change their sexual orientation/identity* to accommodate you.”

Everyone deserves to have their gender respected by their romantic/sexual partners.

Everyone *also* deserves to have their sexual orientation respected by their romantic/sexual partners.

And if, in order to feel that your gender identity is being appropriately respected, you need to have a partner who identifies as bi/pan/whatever, that’s cool.

But that’s where that stops, and if you’re with a partner who doesn’t identify as [whichever term you feel you need them to identify as], then maybe that’s an irreconcilable incompatibility and that may mean the relationship isn’t right for either or both of you.

But it’s not okay to ask your partner to change their sexual identity to validate your gender identity, any more than it would be okay for your partner to ask you to change your gender identity to validate their sexual identity. Both of those requests are absolutely unreasonable, and trying to claim its not unreasonable to request a partner to change their sexual identity for you is absolute bullshit.

Maybe I’m a bit more sensitive to this than most, because I’m bisexual, I often prefer to ID as queer, and as a result I’ve spent more of my life than I would prefer fending off various people’s and various groups’ attempts to force me to identify in ways they prefer. I’ve dealt with the bi/pan wars, the “bi means 2”, “bisexuality is transphobic”, and of course the current tug of war over “”“the ~q slur~”“”. So I have absolutely 0 patience for people trying to convince other people that it’s okay to try to control how anyone identifies.

Again, let me emphasize that it’s not unreasonable to want or need to be with a partner who identifies in some particular way in order to feel that your partner validates and respects your gender! That’s not unreasonable at all and you’re on totally solid moral and ethical grounds with that.

But your need for validation does not override your partner’s right to their sexual orientation and identity. Your need for validation does not create for you the right to control your partner’s sexual identity. That is unreasonable and it is unacceptable.

If your partner’s sexual identity makes you feel that your gender identity is not fully respected and validated and supported, WALK THE FUCK AWAY. Don’t try to get them to change their sexual identity to suit you. Either give their sexual identity the same respect you want them to give your gender identity, or don’t be in that relationship with that person.
